On Saturday Jan 7th, 2017 I went to the North Shore Rescue's christmas tree chip up event. They were nice enough to let me take 5 trees to place in Mosquito Creek. Below are some photos of the trees in their new homes in the creek. What a way to recycle, but the best part is this provides vital shelter for rearing salmon fry and smolts as there was little or no cover in many of these pools and alcoves, now they can use these areas with much higher survival rates.

I spent some time moving fallen woody debris into the East alcove near the "Trail Closed" sign on the east side of the creek.
Over a period of approximately 3 hours divided up over two days I was able to throw a fairly substantial amount of debris into the alcove to provide shelter for developing Steelhead and Coho fry. Looking to go to our local groups doing tree chip ups and ask for a few Christmas Trees to add to the West Alcove and a few to place in the Fell and Griffin Channels as well. |
